I worked my way through college as a bookkeeper. You can do it with just a laptop and one software package (Quickbooks). Pick up a few small businesses, they often take two to three hours a week. Depending on where you live, you can bill $20 to $60 per hour if you’re good.

When I graduated, I got certified to do taxes. Now I make my living at it, mostly from home.

Anyone thinking of establishing a business venture, big or small, normally should look for an opportunity to effect a desired income. Of which one should consider studying thoroughly again and again and again…Hoping to minimize start up losses….

I know several college students that have a small cleaning business-either for small offices or residential. Both have a low cost start up and you begin making an income fairly quickly. I have a lot of information, resources and tips on my Squidoo lens and blog, both links are in my profile.
A small office cleaning business is one of the most stable in these economic times because small offices will always need this service and are more apt to hire an independent service. Look for newly constructed office complexes and find the leasing agent to find the contacts. Or target businesses like dentists, insurance, accountants, and, believe it or not, funeral homes! These businesses have consistent clientele.
If you’re thinking about doing residential, target placing a flier and business card at places like country clubs and gyms. If these people can pay the membership dues, they can afford a house cleaner.
Cleaning businesses are a great way to make extra income or as a full time occupation. You can choose how big or small you want to be.
