    Start off with a list of what you enjoy doing. get hold of copies of local newpapers and magazines for different rural areas and see what people are doing around the country.

    Oh I wish I had open land like that, I live in a city. There are huge govt subsidies going out right now for alternative energy. If you have a lot of wind, build the turbines and sell the energy, same goes with solar, etc.

    I have quite a bit of experience in rural community business. The sad truth is its getting harder and harder to survive there in traditional business. If its traditional you want then this question is unanswerable without a lot more detail.
    My suggestion start an internet business which you can run from anywhere with broadband and a phone.

    irst, I’ve got to give the disclaimer that I’m not a planner. The following is an idea that has not yet been tried, but it is for a rural, micropolitan city with surrounding smaller towns that are more economically challenged than is the hub city. The smaller towns in the county that surround the larger hub city may be more similar to the community with which you are working.
